About Us

Luckens Road Medical Centre began operating on Luckens Road, West Harbour, in 1979. On the 11th of April 2016, it became Hobsonville Family Doctors at its new location on 124 Hobsonville Road. We are easy to find on 124 Hobsonville Road, on the first floor of the new building in front of the new Countdown. 

Our clinic features 5 GP clinic rooms and 3 nursing areas. There is a Pharmacy, Physiotherapist and Podiatrist conveniently located in the same building. There is a big lift, mobility access and disabled parking at our front door, and plenty of free parking available outside.

Dr Jann Singer

MBChB, DCH, DipObst, FRNZCGP

Jann joined the practice in 1986, 7 years after Dr Stephen Chalcroft and his nurse Judy had started the practice. Over the last 34 years she has enjoyed working along side a team of doctors and nurses who have dedicated many years to the families in West Auckland. She enjoys all aspects of general practice and has done post graduate studies in Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Mental health and Adolescent medicine.

Jann's regular hours are Tuesday and Friday mornings, with afternoon sessions on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Jann is no longer seeing new patients.

Dr Paul Nicholls

MBBS, DRCOG, MRCGP, DipMSM, FRNZCGP

Paul joined the practice in 1988, after moving from the UK. He trained as a General Practitioner in Brighton. He has a post-graduate qualification and special interest in Musculoskeletal Medicine. Over the last 32 years Paul has enjoyed working alongside a skilled team and provide the highest quality services to the local community.

Paul's regular hours are Monday all day, and sessions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Dr Torrance Merkle

MBChB (Auckland), PGCertMedSc, FRNZCGP

Torrance joined as a full time GP in December 2015. He was born and bred in Auckland and studied Medicine at Auckland University, before working in all 4 of the hospitals in Auckland. Torrance's interests include Youth, Sexual and LGBT+ Health, Diabetes and other long term conditions, and Sleep and Mental Health.

Torrance is experienced prescribing PrEP for the prevention of HIV (read more here). He is also starting to offer video consultations for existing patients (for follow-up or ongoing management of existing conditions). 

Torrance's regular hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, and all day Fridays. Torrance's late night session is Thursdays until 7pm.

Dr Julyan Lawry

BHB, MBChB, DipPaed, DipObstMedGyn, FRNZCGP

Julyan has been with Luckens Road Medical Centre since 1998. She is a mother to twin girls and enjoys all aspects of General Practice. 

Julyan works part-time, and her regular hours are Tuesday afternoons, Wednesday afternoons, and Thursday mornings. 

Julyan is no longer seeing new patients. 

Dr Joanne Shooter

MBChB, FRNZCGP

Joanne has been with Luckens Road Medical Centre since 2003. She is also a mother of twins, with three boys altogether. She trained in Paediatrics before moving to General Practice.

Joanne works Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings.

Dr Halima Nati

MBChB (Auckland), MRNZCGP

Halima grew up locally attending Colwill Primary School and then Massey High School, before going on to study Medicine at the University of Auckland. 

She takes great pride working in the same area that she grew up, and has been at Hobsonville Family Doctors since 2018. Halima enjoys all aspects of General Practice. 

Her current hours are Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays all day, and Thursday mornings.

Dr Cole Rudolph

MBChB, DipPaed, MRNZCGP

Cole joined us full time in June 2019. ​Cole grew up in Whangarei and has settled into Auckland life with his wife who is also a General Practitioner.  Cole particularly enjoys working with children having worked in paediatrics in each of the hospitals in Auckland and having also completed his Diploma in Paediatrics. He has an interest in Skin Cancer medicine and has obtained a Certificate in Skin Cancer from the Skin Cancer College Australasia.

Cole is enthusiastic about the outdoors, sports and travelling. 

His current hours are all day Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday morning, Thursday afternoons (late night session until 7pm), and all day Friday

Dr Canaan Aumua

MBChB (Auckland)

Canaan joined us part-time in October 2019. He will be working Saturday mornings while he completes his Master of Public Health.

Dr Gretchen Laubscher

MBChB, FRNZCGP

Gretchen joined us in February 2020. Originally from South Africa, Gretchen studied at the University of Pretoria, where she also met her husband.

 

They moved to New Zealand in 2007 where Gretchen initially worked in Accident and Medical clinics in Whangarei and Auckland, before completing her GP specialist training. Gretchen enjoys all aspects of general practice, the variety and complexity, and the privilege of building relationships with patients and their families over the years.

 

In her spare time she enjoys baking, board games, entertaining friends and especially spending time with her husband and their 2 young daughters.

 

She currently works Mondays and Fridays all day, and Tuesday mornings.

 

Nurses

Adrienne Coakley

BNurs, PGCert Advanced Nursing Practice

Adrienne has a Bachelor of Nursing and Post Graduate Certificate in Advanced Nursing (Primary Care), as well as being a cervical smear taker and trained phlebotomist (blood tests). Her nursing career spans over 30+ years in a variety of roles including laboratory nursing, maternity, accident and medical, and the Cardiac Cath lab at Auckland Hospital. She has done other other related work including working as a Field Officer for Multiple Sclerosis.

She has two grown sons and two grandchildren. When not with her family, she enjoys painting, travel, and long walks on the beach. Particular nursing interests are working with people with disabilities, women's health, and immunisations. 

Angela Reti (currently on Maternity Leave)

BHSc/BNurs

Angela became qualified in 2011 and has worked as a registered nurse both overseas and in New Zealand. Angela's previous work experience includes inpatient dermatology and general medicine, community wound care and inpatient emergency care.

 

Originally from Whangarei, her passions include health promotion, wound care and holistic healthcare. 

Kim Ubels (currently on Maternity Leave)

BHSc/BNurs, PGDip Primary Healthcare

​Kim is originally from Vancouver, Canada and moved to New Zealand in 2005.

 

She has a conjoint bachelors degree in Nursing and Health Science, and a diploma in advanced nursing. She has previously worked in Practice Nursing and spent the last 6 years in Accident and Urgent care before joining the Hobsonville Family Doctors Team. Particular areas of interest are nutrition, wound care and long term condition management.

 

Kim has recently moved to West Auckland with her husband and enjoys outdoor activities, DIY/crafts and photography. 

Liz McAlevey

Bachelor of Nursing/Post Grad Diploma in Nursing

Liz’s background includes 8 years in the Army as a Medic and 3 years nursing in Perth.  She enjoys all aspects of primary care, particularly wound care and chronic disease management.

 

She has two children and loves baking, outdoor pursuits and travel when she can.

Rina de Villiers

BNurs, BCur Ed et Admin & Primary Health Care Nursing

Rina moved with her husband from Johannesburg, South Africa to New Zealand in 2013 to continue her nursing career. She has been nursing for 30+ years and her experience is vast in Accident and Emergency care and General Practice.

 

She has a passion for helping manage long term health conditions, women's health, including performing cervical smears, and mental health difficulties having completed a certificate in Mental Health and Addiction in Primary Care in New Zealand.

Family time is Rina's favourite hobby outside working hours. She loves running with her husband and exploring the stunning New Zealand outdoors.

Melanie Shepherd

BHSc/BNurs

Melanie joined grew up and still lives in West Auckland. She joined Hobsonville Family Doctors in October 2019.

 

She has been working at the North Shore hospital and Waitakere hospital emergency departments for 16 years prior to her move to General Practice. She has also done work in the UK with refugees and district nursing. She is enthusiastic about gaining more knowledge in all aspects of Primary Care especially women's health, care of long term chronic conditions and wound care.

 

In between looking after her 3 daughters and working she enjoys DIY around the house and gardening.

Ali Brady

BNurs, Certificate in allergy nursing

Ali has has had previous experience in General Paediatric's at Starship Children’s Hospital before moving into Private Allergy clinic nursing.

 

She is passionate about health promotion in particular children’s health and
immunisations. She is also interested in the prevention and management of mental health conditions.


In her spare time Ali loves looking after family and spending time at the beach
or boating.

Ashley Hulme

Ashley joined us in July 2019. Ashley background in Health Services Management and Corporate Finance underpin his experience in various managerial positions over the past 7 years between primary and secondary care in Auckland.

 

In his spare time he enjoys time with his fiancee and daughter, entertaining friends and playing sports including golf and football.

Shiree

Shiree comes to us with many years of Administration and Customer Service Management mainly in the travel and hospitality industry but interestingly also has a Diploma in Childbirth Education.

 

She has two grown children and loves to travel.

Amy

Amy joined HFD a couple of years ago and is the perfect mix of caring and efficient. Her hobbies include travel, gardening and she loves a bit of DIY.

Avalon

Avalon has been with the practice for several years in total, having left us for a short time to travel, but returning to rejoin our reception team.  Her interests include travel, singing and music therapy.

Chloe

Chloe enjoys her role as one of our fabulous medical receptionists and always has a lovely smile ready for our patients.

Leverne

Leverne has joined us from a banking and financial background and has spent time working with children’s charity Cure Kids.  She is passionate about being able to help others.

 

She has three boys and enjoys following their never ending sports.
