Mpox (Monkeypox) Vaccinations

Mandi Knowles

Updated: Jan 11, 2023

From 19 January, Mpox vaccination will be available to eligible people at designated sexual health clinics and a number of pop-up sites. At these clinics, before offering vaccination, health professionals will discuss with patients the risk of exposure to mpox, and options, benefits, and risks of vaccination.

Eligibility for mpox vaccination pre-exposure:

- Gay, bisexual or other men who have sex with men (MSM) who have multiple sexual partners, and trans and non-binary people and cis-gender women who are in intimate relationships with these men.

- Those recommended to have the vaccine by medical specialists, e.g. sexual health, infectious diseases, general medicine

- Laboratory workers culturing the mpox virus.

The vaccine requires a prescription and, due to limited supply, will only be available at these clinics.
